Our current picks for Canadian players

Ranked on three things: does Interac actually work at checkout, how fast is the first withdrawal, and does the operator publish its licence instead of hiding it.

Why only three? We would rather list fewer operators we've actually confirmed take Canadian players and Interac deposits than pad this page with names that don't. We're adding more as we verify them — see our methodology for what "verified" means here.

Bonus amounts and wagering requirements change frequently on the operator side, so we don't lock exact figures into this table — the current offer is always on the operator's own page, linked above. What doesn't change as often — game types, Interac support, licensing — is what we track here.

How we rank operators

Three checks, applied the same way to every operator before it earns a spot on this page.

Interac actually works at checkout. We check whether Interac Online or Interac e-Transfer is offered as a real deposit option, not just listed as a payment-method logo on the homepage. A casino that advertises Interac but routes Canadian players to a different processor at checkout doesn't pass this check.

The licence is published, not hidden. We look for a licence number and issuing regulator (Malta, Curaçao, Kahnawake, or a provincial regulator like iGaming Ontario) somewhere a player can actually find it — usually the footer or an "About" page. Operators that don't publish this anywhere don't make the list.

Withdrawals aren't a mystery. We check whether the operator states a processing time for a first withdrawal, and whether that time frame is realistic (same-day to a few business days for e-transfer methods) rather than vague marketing language.

Full detail, including what we couldn't independently verify and why, is on our methodology page.

What we couldn't verify directly: all three operators run Cloudflare-level bot protection that blocks automated browsing, which means we can't screenshot live bonus percentages or RTP figures the way we can check something objective like whether Interac appears at checkout. Where a number would normally go — exact match percentage, wagering multiplier, RTP — we link to the operator's own current page instead of repeating a figure we can't confirm ourselves. That's a deliberate choice, not an oversight.

Is online gambling even legal in Canada?

Short answer: it depends which province you're in.

Canada doesn't have a single national online casino licence. Ontario is the only province with a fully regulated, multi-operator online market — since April 2022, operators need an iGaming Ontario (iGO) registration to legally advertise and accept Ontario residents. Outside Ontario, most provinces run their own government lottery-corporation platform for provincially-regulated play, while offshore-licensed operators (typically Malta, Curaçao, or Kahnawake) serve the rest of the market in a legal grey area that Canadian authorities have historically not prosecuted individual players for using.

Where each province stands

Ontario Regulated

Open multi-operator market via iGaming Ontario since April 2022. Operators must hold an iGO registration.

Quebec Province-run

Loto-Québec's Espacejeux is the only provincially-licensed platform. Offshore sites operate outside that system — see our Quebec page.

British Columbia Province-run

PlayNow, operated by the BC Lottery Corporation, is the regulated option.

Alberta Province-run

PlayAlberta serves as the province's own regulated platform; no open multi-operator market yet.

Rest of Canada Province-run

Each remaining province and territory runs its own lottery-corporation site; offshore operators fill the rest of the market everywhere.

This site covers offshore-licensed operators serving Canadian players broadly, plus a dedicated breakdown of the Ontario-regulated market if that's what you're looking for. Read the full picture on our legal status page before you sign up anywhere.

We're not lawyers. This page is general information, not legal advice — provincial rules can change. If in doubt, check your provincial gaming authority directly.

Why Interac matters more here than anywhere else

If you've used an online casino outside Canada, you'll notice something different at checkout: most Canadian players don't reach for a credit card, they use Interac Online or Interac e-Transfer — a direct bank transfer system almost every major Canadian bank supports. It's the closest thing Canada has to a "default" gambling payment method, and it matters because a casino that lists Interac but fails at the actual payment step (declined transfers, hidden fees, days-long delays) is a bigger red flag here than a missing Visa option would be.

How an Interac deposit actually works

At the cashier, you select Interac Online (or e-Transfer) instead of a card. You're redirected to your own bank's login page — not a third-party form — which is the biggest tell that it's genuine Interac and not a relabeled processor.

You confirm the transfer using your normal online banking credentials. The funds move directly from your bank account, the same way a regular Interac e-Transfer to a person would.

Deposits are typically instant. Withdrawals back to Interac are the part that varies most by operator — this is the specific step we check before recommending a site.

We test the deposit flow directly rather than trusting a payment-methods logo strip on the homepage. Full breakdown on our Interac casinos page.

If this is your first time looking at real-money online casinos, three things are worth knowing before you compare offers:

Deposit methods beyond Interac

Interac is what we check first because it's what most Canadian players default to, but it's rarely the only option listed at the cashier. Card payments (Visa, Mastercard) and sometimes crypto show up as alternatives depending on the operator — availability varies enough between the three that we don't generalize it here. If a payment method other than Interac matters more to you than our top-line ranking, the individual reviews list exactly what we could confirm at each cashier page.

From there, our no deposit bonus and real money casino pages break down the two most common starting points, and the reviews above go operator by operator.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best online casino for Canadian players right now?

Based on the three operators we've verified accept Canadian players with working Interac deposits, Winshark currently ranks first for its broader game library and sports betting option — see the full comparison above and the detailed review for why.

Do I need to pay tax on online casino winnings in Canada?

For casual, recreational players, gambling winnings are generally not taxable in Canada under the Income Tax Act, since gambling isn't considered a source of income unless you're operating as a professional gambler running it as a business. This isn't tax advice — talk to an accountant if you have a significant win.

Is Interac available at every online casino that serves Canada?

No — plenty of offshore operators only offer crypto or international card processors that don't work smoothly with Canadian banks. That's exactly why we check Interac support directly rather than assuming it from a logo on the homepage. See our Interac-specific breakdown.

What's the difference between Ontario's regulated casinos and the rest of Canada?

Ontario operators must hold an iGaming Ontario (iGO) registration and follow Ontario-specific consumer-protection rules. Outside Ontario, most sites serving Canadian players are licensed offshore (Malta, Curaçao, Kahnawake) rather than by a Canadian regulator. See our full legal breakdown.

Can I play in Canadian dollars, or do I need to convert currency?

All three operators we track accept CAD directly, so deposits, balances, and withdrawals are shown in Canadian dollars with no manual conversion. That's part of what "accepts Canadian players" means in our checks — an operator that only settles in USD or EUR doesn't pass.

What happens if an operator we list stops accepting Interac or Canadian players?

We re-verify monthly, and drop or flag an operator the same day we catch a change — that's the point of the "last checked" date at the top of this page rather than a one-time review. If you spot something that's changed before we do, our contact page is the fastest way to tell us.
